The funding round was led by Mitsubishi’s Agrex group, with Banco do Brasil also participating through its corporate venture fund co-managed by Vox Capital.
Founded in 2015 by Fernando Reis and Prof. Dr. Carlos Labate from the University of São Paulo, Genica specializes in developing bio-based solutions for agriculture, focusing on bio-inoculants, bio-stimulants, and bio-pesticides tailored for crops such as soybean, corn, and sugarcane—critical exports for Brazil on the global stage.

"We started investing in biologics back in 2009/2010, which was a little too early," explains Francisco Jardim, managing partner at SP Ventures, a key supporter of Genica since its inception. "But we anticipated Brazil's rise as the largest adoption market for biologics globally, driven by regulatory advancements and increasing demand for sustainable farming practices."
Genica's innovative approach to biotechnology includes a phased evolution of products aimed at enhancing crop productivity and sustainability. Gerson Marquesi, head of research and regulatory affairs at Genica, describes their latest advancements focusing on third-generation products using microorganism metabolites for more effective pest and disease control.

"Our strategy revolves around integrating biopesticides and inoculants into a comprehensive system like REGENERA," Marquesi explains. "This system aims to diagnose field conditions, enhance nutrient-use efficiency, and implement multi-year management plans using biologicals to promote biodiversity and reduce pest pressure."
The funding will also support Genica's expansion into international markets, leveraging partnerships with distributors like Agrex to extend their reach beyond Brazil and Paraguay. This move comes amid Brazil's strategic initiatives to streamline regulatory processes and foster innovation in agricultural biotechnology.
Brazil's leadership in biologics was a highlight at the recent Salinas Biological Summit, emphasizing the country's progressive pesticide laws and regulatory frameworks aimed at simplifying bureaucratic hurdles. This environment has positioned Brazil as a pivotal player in advancing sustainable agriculture practices globally.

With a strong emphasis on technical expertise and a dedicated focus on biologics, Genica distinguishes itself as a native biological company committed to integrating sustainable agricultural solutions into broader farming practices. CEO Marcos Petean underscores the company's balanced revenue stream from agricultural retailers and large agribusinesses, reflecting robust market adoption among technically savvy farming communities in Brazil.
As Genica prepares to expand its footprint and innovate further in agricultural biotechnology, the company remains poised to drive transformative change in global farming practices through sustainable, bio-based solutions.
