Swiss agtech company xFarm Technologies has acquired Brazilian platform Sibium Analytics, expanding its digital agriculture business into sugarcane and biofuel production while increasing its global footprint to 24 million hectares across more than 600,000 farms. The transaction strengthens xFarm’s presence in Latin America and adds geospatial intelligence, ESG, traceability and business analytics capabilities to its platform, according to AgFunderNews.

The acquisition is xFarm’s sixth deal in four years and its second involving a Brazilian company within a year. Financial terms were not disclosed. Existing investors backed the transaction, which also benefited from a new partnership with BlackRock.

The deal gives xFarm a stronger position in one of the world’s most important markets for sugarcane and ethanol. Brazil produces around half of the world’s sugarcane and is the largest global producer of sugarcane ethanol, making the country a strategic market for agricultural technology linked to biofuels.

Sugarcane also plays a role beyond fuel production. Brazil generates roughly 9% of its electricity from sugarcane-derived bioelectricity, expanding the relevance of digital tools capable of monitoring production, sustainability and supply chains.

Sibium Analytics developed a technology ecosystem aimed at sugarcane mills and biofuel processors. Its solutions combine satellite and geospatial data, sustainability monitoring and business intelligence to follow the crop from field production through industrial processing and biofuel certification.

Its Sigma Digital platform uses geospatial remote sensing for crop mapping and risk assessment, while Ambium Digital focuses on ESG, traceability and sustainability certifications. A separate business intelligence layer converts field data into information that companies can use for operational decisions.

By integrating these capabilities with its existing digital agriculture tools, xFarm aims to build a platform capable of connecting farmers, processors and other participants across agricultural supply chains.

“Our vision has always been to support farmers and ag innovators with world class data-driven decision making across entire agricultural value chains,” said xFarm CEO Matteo Vanotti.

Sibium customers will now gain access to xFarm’s proprietary Internet of Things ecosystem, including hyper-local weather stations, field sensors and artificial intelligence-powered decision support systems.

These technologies can provide additional information for operational planning, crop monitoring and supply chain forecasting. Combining field sensors with geospatial intelligence could also give processors greater visibility into agricultural production before raw materials arrive at industrial facilities.

At the same time, xFarm customers operating across different crops will gain access to Sibium’s technologies. The company expects these tools to accelerate sustainability certification, traceability and agricultural risk monitoring across Latin America.

The potential applications extend beyond farmers and processors. Food companies, financial institutions and insurers could use a more integrated data infrastructure to follow agricultural production and sustainability indicators across multiple crops and regions.

For xFarm, the transaction is also part of a broader international expansion strategy. The company wants to create what Vanotti describes as “the data layer of global agriculture,” connecting primary field information with decisions across entire industries.

The strategy reflects a broader shift in agricultural technology. Digital platforms are increasingly moving beyond farm management and seeking to integrate information from production, processing, sustainability, logistics and financial services.

The acquisition of Sibium gives xFarm direct exposure to the sugarcane and biofuel value chains, sectors where traceability and sustainability data are becoming increasingly important for producers, processors and global buyers.

It also expands the scale of xFarm’s operations. Following the transaction, its technology network reaches 24 million hectares and more than 600,000 farms worldwide, strengthening the company’s position as it seeks to build a global agricultural data infrastructure.

With Sibium’s Brazilian expertise and xFarm’s existing IoT, artificial intelligence and supply chain technologies, the combined platform aims to turn agricultural data into operational insights from the field to processing and certification.
